Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register my child for the youth programs?
Print out this form and send to Common Threads Farm, 4050 Sunny Hill Lane, Lummi Island, WA, 98262.

What’s your adult to student ratio?

In our youth programs we strive for a 6:1 youth/adult ratio, and guarantee no higher than 8:1.

Are you insured?
Yes.  Our farm insurance policy very explicitly includes liability coverage for our educational programs.

How do you accommodate people with disabilities?
We are fully committed to accommodating people of all abilities.  We welcome your call in advance of a program to make sure that we are prepared to meet your special needs.

What level of participation do you expect or allow from parents?
Although we’re happy to have you drop your child off at the start of the programming day and pick your child up at the end of the day, we also welcome you to stay and join in the fun.  We recognize how vitally important parents are as partners and role models in learning and welcome your participation.

What does my child need to bring?
* Water bottle
* Sunscreen
* Long-sleeved shirt
* Raingear
* Sturdy close-toed shoes
* Sun-hat
* Non-breakable cup, plate, bowl, fork and spoon,
    labeled with your child's name
* An open mind

Please don’t send your child with food.  Nutrition is an explicit part of all of our programming and we encourage program participants to join their peers in the harvesting, preparation, and consumption of delicious farm-fresh meals.  For overnight programs, you will be provided with a more extensive list of supplies.

What is your rain/inclement weather policy?
Our plants love the rain, and we hope your kids do too.  We run programs rain or shine.

What is your cancellation/Refund policy?

We are happy to offer you a full refund a week in advance of your program date.

What do you do in the case of a medical emergency?

Our lead staff are trained at a minimum in basic first aid and CPR.  While we hope never to use them, the response time of the Lummi Island Volunteer Fire Department is exceptional.  There are no medical facilities on the island, so in the case of a true emergency, we transport youth to Bellingham.
